Wow I can’t believe I recorded 4 songs in one week. It may sound trivial but it’s a huge accomplishment for me. No time to gloat about it because there is plenty more work to do 🙂

Child of war was inspired by events that took place while I was giving an interview at a radio station. This was back when USA sent troops to Libya and the talk around the table was whether we should have sent our troops or not. Everyone had strong opinions on both sides of the discussion. When it was my turn I said “I am a child of war and you can never know what it feels like to be in the middle of war unless there are bombs flying above your head and your roof putting your life in harms way.” Everyone stood still as they listened to my shaky voice sharing my childhood. The fact is I don’t know what it means to have a beautiful, loving and safe childhood. Sure I had a loving family but our lives were in danger, we were hungry at times, robbed, stripped of our dignity and many other horrible things. I only have one life and the one that I have dealt me a hand with war and everything that comes with it. I’ve lived more of my life away from my parents that I’ve spent with them. So when it comes to war and violence my strong opinion is that we have to exhaust all diplomatic ways of cease fire until we resort to sending troops. Weapons destroy not just houses, buildings and cars but lives too and life is something we cannot get back once we lose it. For that reason diplomacy is aways a better way to go.

I also want to mention that this song was produced by Unanimo. A fantastic producer duo from my hometown of Mostar. I love their work.

Here are the lyrics so you can get a better grasp of my story

I am a child of war

Never knew what’s in store

My life was turned upside down

Family and friends scattered around

I was too little to understand

That in the world existed a man

That wanted me dead ‘cause of my name

It was just Fatima, it was just my name

I beg of you this right now

Stand up for peace don’t back down

Don’t let them fool you into war

You can stand together in accord

You can be better for this world

Please choose peace instead of war

You don’t have to fight amongst you all

You’re only fighting your own soul

I didn’t know what war was like

Until I had to live through the wrath

Of enemy lines that wanted me dead

Shooting at me blindly in holy bloodshed

They were not shooting cause I did them wrong

It’s cause they were told that I didn’t belong

I was different in their eyes and so

I had no place in their world

I beg of you this right now

Stand up for peace don’t back down

Don’t let them fool you into war

You can stand together in accord

You can be better for this world

Please choose peace instead of war

You don’t have to fight amongst you all

You’re only fighting your own soul
